I’ll Work For You Because I’m One Of You

I decided to run this year because I care about New Hampshire and the people who live here. I’ve worked doing a lot of different things and lived in a variety of situations that help me understand the needs of working people, veterans, families and retirees as well as vulnerable people who may need services.

I was born to a single mother in northern Vermont and adopted by my parents who were both teachers. My parents had two boys of their own shortly after that. We moved to Massachusetts when I was in middle school and I began working in New Hampshire at the first of several fast-food jobs in 1975  at age 15 at Burger Chef in Seabrook.

After high school, I slowly worked my way through college doing direct care with the developmentally disabled, factory production jobs and as an EMT while working at Northampton State Hospital. 

Before I finished, I took time off and enlisted in the Army where I served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic overseas and finished my bachelors degree at the University of Massachusetts upon discharge.

I returned to working at inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units and was one of several staff who instructed a course in self-defense and restraint at Northampton State Hospital.

In the early 90’s personal computers came onto the scene and I taught  myself how to program. I was asked to help develop a system for the central intake office for Mental Health at Baystate Medical Center and was eventually offered a job as a software engineer there. During this time I  completed my Masters degree at Western New England University and taught both credit and non-credit courses in programming at Springfield Technical Community College.

I believe that the people of New Hampshire deserve better than what we’ve gotten from the state legislature over the last several years.

Republicans have controlled all branches of state government for the last several years and have failed to prioritize working for the majority of their constituents who are being hammered by the results of their failed economic policies. The Free State Agenda has been pushed by republicans who spend an inordinate amount of time legislating for their donors at the expense of working people, families, small businesses and retirees.
